UK Construction Week 2017

After making the “Top 10 Specialist contractors to work for over £25 million” by Construction Enquirer in August, a few members of the Astins team attended the Construction Enquirer Awards in October during UK Construction week to hear who would be crowned the winners!

Construction Week took place on 10-12 October in Birmingham, and had various companies from the industry in attendance. The events started off for the Astins team at the Birmingham NEC where Rebecca Hislam (HR Training & Manager) gave an interview for Construction Enquirer discussing our nomination. She spoke about our commitment to training and gave an overview of what we do Astins. The interview was filmed and televised for the duration of the NEC event.

The Astins team then headed over to the FIS (Finishes and Interiors Sector) stand who were presenting the winners of the #IBuiltThis categories. The host of the FIS awards was Architect George Clark, best known for his work on Channel 4 programmes; The Home Show, The Restoration Man, and George Clark’s Amazing Spaces. The #IBuiltThis awards was a very uplifting and positive event that featured people of different ages, young and old who showcased their skills by creatively constructing buildings. After the awards, the Astins team enjoyed glasses of champagne and were able to network with other FIS members.

Now onto the main event! George Clarke was also the presenter of the Construction Enquirer Awards. Guests enjoyed drinks at the reception and a chance to network with different companies. Finally it was time for the attendees to take their seats and await the winners! Unfortunately, we did not win in our chosen category (Best Specialist Contractor to work for over 25m), but with over 10,000 votes cast, Astins felt delighted to have made it into the top 10. The winner of the award went to Briggs & Forrester.

Overall, UK Construction Week was a massive success. It is only the third year running for the UK’s largest Construction Trade show but this year saw a record breaking 33,697 construction professionals attend the event. Those in attendance took away key aspects to help them further their advancement in the construction industry such as learning how to handle BREXIT, dealing with the skills shortage and gaining a competitive advantage. This isn’t the last time the event will be hearing of Astins, we hope to be back next year and this time bringing back gold!
