In September Astins welcomed nine individuals onto the Astins Apprenticeship Scheme. The programme, which lasts two years, provides the apprentices with an opportunity to develop their Drylining skills and gain their NVQ Level 2 and CSCS Blue Skilled card.
Based at the Astins Institute training facility in Battersea London, they are learning the basics from Paul Hayter, Astins Trainer, plus Astins’ Apprenticeship Mentors Michael Whelan and Marijus Cibulskis. In addition to learning the fundamentals of Drylining, they have been developing their knowledge of Health & Safety, site operations, reading drawings and the importance of teamwork. They have also been trying their hands at industry specialisms such as Firestopping. Together with training delivered by Astins, the apprentices have also been enrolled at the Building Craft College in Stratford, to further support them in their journey.
Shortly the apprentices are due to begin life on site, where they will join our existing site team at Chase Farm, Enfield. Here they will continue to work as a ‘gang’ supervised by Marijus and Michael. The mentors will stay with the apprentices through-out their apprenticeship, to support them in their development.
Astins welcomes the new apprentices to the business and wishes them every success in their future careers.
